If I had to
choose an expert in the field of political scienc, it would be Giovanni
Sartori.
He was an Italian
political scientist specialized in the study of democracy and comparative politics.
Born in Florence, Italy in 1924 nearly two years after fascist strongman Benito
Mussolini rose to the position of Italy's prime minister.
Academic
career:
Sartori
began his academic career as a lecturer in the History of Modern Philosophy,
and later became Dean of the University of Florence's political science
department. His academic influence skyrocketed after the publication in the
"American Political Science Review" of his seminal paper,
"Concept Misformation in Comparative Politics," considered a
must-read classic for political science students around the world. (EFE, 2017)
Sartori
died at the age of 92 in Florence from throat cancer on 4 April 2017.
The reason
I chose this author, is because I find his approach to the development of
political science extremely interesting and how science should be done in an
era where one only thinks about the accumulation of knowledge and resembles the
natural sciences in its methodology.
