Who am I?

Hello there!

My name is Sebastián Rubio Jorquera. I was born on October 26th, 2000. I live in El Manzano, Las Cabras (The Apple tree, The Goats), a small but very homely town in the sixth region.

My childhood was very nice with my parents, my sister, and my grandparents, but I was too shy until I entered to school.

Since I was a little boy (smaller than now) I really like comics, history, and movies. My favourite comic is Watchmen and I like a lot the Star Wars saga.
In primary school I had a lot of friends, but for life’s things we split up. Then, in high school I met incredible people who became into my best friends. Every day we had lot of things to do and we really had fun. I remember that we used to sit in the square to talk about life and Fridays we played football.

Also, I had a band with my friends, and we played songs of Latin rock. My favourite bands are The Clash and The Beatles, but I like cumbia, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Faith No More, Soda Stereo, Los Prisioneros, Virus, G.I.T, Camilo Sesto, Raphael, Sandro, Juan Gabriel, etc. And other genres. On the other side, I had a political phase being president of the student body.

I study political science at Universidad de Chile (University of Chile). I feel so glad because I have learned a lot and met very special friends who make my days happier.

Last but not least, I want to talk about my dog: Sam. He’s very playful and lovely. He’s 6 years old and is part of the family.

That’s all folks!

Free topic: A Personal Voyage

Hello there This time I didn’t really know what to talk about, so I started thinking about some issues from my childhood. I remember when I was a kid I used to play on my computer and review the famous ‘Encarta’. One day my mom came and gave It to my sister and me a CD.  That CD contained the famous TV series 'Cosmos: A personal Voyage'. The series was produced in 1978 and 1979. Despite that, it had incredible special effects and a great montage. What I admire most about the series are the incredible landscapes and its producer, Carl Sagan.  Music is another highlight: it fits perfectly with each scene and is composed by the famous Greek composer Vangelis.  I remember that with this series I began to be interested in science fiction themes, the universe and to have my first existential doubts.  If you are interested in this type of subject, I invite you to search on youtube: Cosmos. It is really a great program and deserves to be valued...

Blog 7 - Career-related website/Expert on your field

If I had to choose an expert in the field of political scienc, it would be Giovanni Sartori . He was an Italian political scientist specialized in the study of democracy and comparative politics. Born in Florence, Italy in 1924 nearly two years after fascist strongman Benito Mussolini rose to the position of Italy's prime minister. Academic career: Sartori began his academic career as a lecturer in the History of Modern Philosophy, and later became Dean of the University of Florence's political science department. His academic influence skyrocketed after the publication in the "American Political Science Review" of his seminal paper, "Concept Misformation in Comparative Politics," considered a must-read classic for political science students around the world. (EFE, 2017) Sartori died at the age of 92 in Florence from throat cancer on 4 April 2017. The reason I chose this author, is because I find his approach to the development of p...

Why did you choose this career program?

“Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family […]” It’s time to talk about big decisions: How do I decided to study Political Science? When I was a child I said: “ I want to be a doctor to take care of my grandparents ” but I was so wrong because I've never had abilities for science and maths.   I remember that I watched movies of WW2 and history with my grandfather and since that moment I began to have an interest in history and political facts. Later, in the school, humanity subjects were my favourites and I really enjoyed the lessons and learned a lot of this. Also, I liked to participate in debates and arguments in the classroom. I chose the career in a moment of pressure, joy and mixed emotions because I was in the last grade of high school and I really needed to take a decision for my future. I don’t regret because I love the program and the lessons. Teachers are good and my friends are amazing!
